Title: Minden News #5: New Lance Corporals - Community Spotlight
Post by: Deathstar on January 16, 2018, 09:50:11 pm

Oooh, Shiny!

Has it been a week already? Oh, how time flies when you are having fun!

As you may have noticed, the number of bearskin caps on the flanks of our line has increased. This is because we have accepted a new batch of Lance Corporals after carefully reviewing all of your applications. The new LCpls are Griff, Jamster, Miwiw, OriginalHobo, Pootis, stalkprey, Tinez and Walki. We look forward to seeing your skills in command and administration!

A special mention goes out to LCpl Miwiw, who through his exceptional performance in the Sunday Linebattle earned a Cross of Valour in Bronze! Read all about his exploits, as well as about the previous recipients in this thread. (https://www.51stregiment.com/forum/index.php?topic=236.msg3541#msg3541)

There is no official Thursday Event planned! As mentioned, we no longer have regular Thursday Events. Do not be disappointed, however, as this can also be a good time to socialize with the rest of the 51st! Our members play many different games together, such as the Grand Strategy title Europa Universalis 4, in which multiple online campaigns have already been concluded. A brand new multiplayer game of EU4 is scheduled to begin this Thursday, at 20:00 CET (http://www.inyourowntime.info/2018-01-18_20.00_Europe.Berlin)! When asked about the most exciting thing to look forward to, our very own Walki commented: "Backstabbing - Game of Thrones style". The last campaigns have had an average of eight players in them. If you have the game and would like to join in, be it just for one session or for the whole thing, let Pounder or Walki know! You can read all about it HERE (https://www.51stregiment.com/forum/index.php?topic=41.0). Note that we may still spontaneously schedule a Holdfast event such as public play, so stay tuned and be there if you are interested.

If you are itching for more Holdfast, you can look forward to the Saturday Public Linebattle at 20:00 CET (http://www.inyourowntime.info/2018-01-20_20.00_Europe.Berlin), followed by the Sunday Linebattle, also at 20:00 CET (http://www.inyourowntime.info/2018-01-21_20.00_Europe.Berlin) as usual. We hope to see you there, as we wrap up this week's Minden News and bid you a good night. Until next week!

We better be careful about all this ranks! : )

I just remembered my first "child clan" in CS (like 15 years ago). There was RPG elements (like we were spetsnatz) and elaborate rank system and by some reason WW2 soviet medals as rewards.

There were 5 generals (1 later mutinied and decrlaced himself fieldmarshal, no less, with his own new better clan), 3 colonels, 2 or 3 majors, 1 captain, 1 lieutenant (he was always angry about his low rank), sergeant (like 10 yo, so always happy) and 5 or 6 privates (including me) and we lke ever-never got any promotions - all those corrupted officers needed someone to command! : ) There was also so strange bonus rank of "sniper" (like major-sniper) but reserverved only to best friends of generals, everyone wanted it, so cool.

You should see the other regiments, we're actually quite sparing with the ranks.

Also congrats to all the new NCOs, a good bunch of fellows

We already reduced the amount of ranks in the past, in order to give more meaning to promotions and each individual rank.

There are limits to CO and NCO ranks behind the scenes as well as a progression for Enlisted ranks.  We've never had a problem with rank overload, luckily and shouldn't as long as they function as intended.

Responsibility and tasks increase when you are at CO and NCO level which ensures that they're granted for the correct reasons.

Plus it helps when the regiment is larger and involves a lot of people rather than a few people, unlike CS.
