News / Minden News #12: Coastal Siege - Command Changes
« on: March 06, 2018, 09:07:56 pm »

Issue #12: The Man in the High Castle

Come into my castle! But only you - In fact, this Thursday we will be capturing and defending forts in a Coastal Siege Event! As with previous Thursday events, this one will take place at 20:00 CET. Based on what we know, we will be fighting the 4th, as well as potentially another smaller regiment. This should be a welcome change of pace and an opportunity to practise naval warfare and to operate sea- and land-based artillery. Come and join in on the fun this Thursday at eight!

Keeping up with the Commands? As with language itself, our dictionary of commands is always considered subject-to-change. While we do have an impressive amount of fairly rigid standardised commands and terms, the actual implementation and use on the battlefield can change depending on the situation and, perhaps most importantly, based on the game's meta. We always strive to be on the cutting edge of effective maneuvering, whilst strictly adhering to the rules. As such, new commands and thus new ways to move about in formation are constantly being discovered, tested and evaluated by us. Those of you who have been at recent events and trainings will already have experienced some of our newest methods. In brief, we have started using more commands that focus on quick movement and deployment, best possible fire rates and more independence from the physical presence of commanding officers. With how things are now, we can precisely maneuver lines even without being at the helm.
Interested in how this plays out? Make sure to attend the Tuesday Trainings to always stay up-to-date with our current flavour of commanding. Also, it is never a bad idea to internalise our basic core commands, which you can always look up at your own convenience in the Recruit Guide.

As for events this week, there is the aforementioned Thursday Event, which will be a coastal siege happening at 20:00 CET. (Friday) NA Training followed by the NA Linebattle is at 7:30 PM EST/EDT and we do encourage anyone who can make it to show up, even if you are European - While this is past midnight for you, the experience is said to be rather unique. The Saturday Public Linebattle is at 20:00 CET. The Sunday Linebattle, as usual, will take place at 20:00 CET. That wraps up the 12th issue of the Minden News™! As always, we hope you enjoyed the read and continue to support the community by attending our events!

Issue #11: All Quiet on the Western Front

Things are quiet. Too quiet. Yes, it has been a slow week on the news side. Unfortunately, we can not report on some grand reveal or another every week. Of course, as we are aware, the Minden News™ is your go-to source of all matters of importance, we would not dream to keep you at bay with useless, poofed-up, drawn-out, redundant, regurgitated filler stories, oh no.

Sundays are back! Granted, Sundays have never been gone, but we hope you enjoyed going back to the classic linebattle formula. Experiments are nice to have, but a go-to staple to make use of is invaluable. If you would like to check out how this experimental event went, our official YouTube channel has just what you need! No Holdfast news have reached us this week, we suspect it is because the developers are rearing up for another big content update. While we have no ETA on this, we know of some things that will be added... You can also expect some iterations of new and improved game modes such as the oft-discussed Conquest mode, though this may take multiple patches to be completed. As always, stay tuned right here, as well as on the dev's official news page!

We want to get to know you! Whether you only just signed up to the regiment, or have been part of us for some time, we are always eager to socialise with all esteemed members of our community. The easiest way to do this is to hop on the Teamspeak and join in on the conversation - No need to be shy! On the same note, we would like to remind you that the Officers and NCOs are always happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the regiment, past or future events or indeed any concerns you feel like addressing. Use Teamspeak, these forums, Steam or our Discord (yes, we have one). Come hang out, have a chat or even play some games other than Holdfast!

Of course, it would be a lie to state that nothing was happening this week. We do have NA Training on Friday at 7:30 PM EST/EDT plus the NA Linebattle at 8:00 PM EST/EDT. The Saturday Public linebattle happens at 20:00 CET. The Sunday Linebattle is at 20:00 CET. Right then, another week, another Minden News™ to hopefully brighten your day. We hope to see you all on the battlefield!

News / Minden News #10: 10th Issue - Recap

Issue #10: The Perfect Ten

Happy Jubilee to us! Ten issues of the Minden News, ten weeks of premium content, carefully curated and refined for your reading pleasure. We hope you enjoyed our wild ride together so far and continue doing so for all future installments! To celebrate the occasion, we received a graphical upgrade in the form of a fancy new headline, courtesy of OriginalHobo.

Since we are looking back, let us recap last week's Sunday Linebattle. As mentioned, we were using an experimental ruleset in order to add more depth to the match type. Three capture points were added to the map, this time represented by volunteers, and respawns were permitted. Lines still had to move and fight in formation and points were based on the amount of times the capture points were taken under control. Traditionally, linebattle events follow a simple deathmatch formula, with no respawns and the simple victory conditions of either wiping out the enemy team, or having the greater number of survivors at the end of a round. We look forward to try more CTF or Conquest style matches in the future, hopefully then as a properly implemented game type. We also ask you to appreciate that 'experimental' also means untested and potentially flawed. Expect improvements for future events and, of course, more events with traditional rules. In the meantime, let us know in this Strawpoll whether you prefer the old linebattles or the new CTF format.
Missed the event? Our resident field reporter Spunned was present, so expect a video soon on our official YouTube channel. Are you following yet?

The plans for the rest of this week: NA Training happens on Friday at 7:30 PM EST/EDT, followed by the NA Linebattle at 8:00 PM EST/EDT. The Saturday Public linebattle happens at 20:00 CET. The Sunday Linebattle, from what we know with standard rules, is at 20:00 CET. That is it for the 10th Edition of the Minden News™! We hope you enjoyed this early special edition. See you tonight for Tuesday Training at 20:00 CET!

News / Minden News #9: Updates - Experiments - Squad
« on: February 13, 2018, 10:29:33 pm »

Of Squads and Men

Line hold, wheel toward the Minden News, go! That's right, we are back with another installment of the only regimental news that you need to be paying attention to! Another week, another step closer to the next Holdfast Update - Our sources state that another batch of content additions and balancing changes are very much imminent, so look forward to that. Further development is being done for the Hardcore mode and a certain Germanic Kingdom is ready to join the fray. Additionally, Holdfast will finally be available in many other languages thanks to the translation work of many members of the community, including yours truly.

Update: The teased update has just been released! Check out the full announcement here!

For this week's Sunday Linebattle, we are changing things up and will be experimenting with a few alternate rules and additions like artillery. We hope this will break the repetitiveness of the Event and allow attendees to experience the full spectrum of what Holdfast has to offer. For those of you who need their linebattle fix right now, we may just have the solution: Lean back and watch some spanking new content, either on our official YouTube (courtesy of Spunned), or perhaps on Carl Klinke's channel. Make sure to let the content creators know what you thought of their videos!

Ten-hut! The 51st Regiment exists in many time periods, not just the Napoleonic Wars. You may have heard that some of our members like to play the tactical modern military shooter Squad. We now also have our own game server running, check out all the details here! Feel free to join the action.

This week's events, as usual, are scheduled as follows: The NA Training will start on Friday at 7:30 PM EST/EDT, followed by the NA Linebattle at 8:00 PM EST/EDT. The Saturday Public Linebattle happens at 20:00 CET. The Sunday Linebattle with altered rules will take place at 20:00 CET. That concludes the 9th issue of the Minden News™! As always, stay tuned for further updates and feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions you might have. See you on the battlefield!

News / Minden News #8: Future Updates - Regimental Praises
« on: February 06, 2018, 10:16:30 pm »

Good Things to Come

Has it been a month already? Yes, we are already more than 36 days into 2018 and things are looking interesting. Holdfast is continuing its development and besides additional content you can expect further balance fine-tuning as well as improvements to performance and stability. The big community events we attend and/or host are very much intended as testing grounds to really take the game to its limits, thereby helping out the developers in their quest to polish their game before its full release.
Likewise, our regimental calendar is as full as ever! Besides the usual suspects, we will also take part in the North American Linebattle on Fridays immediately following training. While this happens at a very late time for Europeans, we recommend checking it out if you do find the time. Believe it or not, the NA Linebattle is an even bigger event than the Sunday Linebattle! Come join if you think you are tough enough.

No news on the medal front this week, but it does give us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on our collective performance in past events. We are very proud of all our enlisted members, who help us continuously excel in the Sunday Linebattle events, as well as show our great community off to the rest of the playerbase in the Saturday Public event. If you have only recently joined us - Stick around and find out why we have been doing this for more than 14 years now. If you are a regular - Keep on shining bright!

For your convenience, here are our upcoming events: The NA Training will start on Friday at 7:30 PM EST/EDT, with the NA Linebattle following immediately after at 8:00 PM EST/EDT. Dress sharply and get a nice, close shave for the Saturday Public Linebattle at 20:00 CET, where we bring our finely honed tactics into an unpredictable environment that is, as the name suggests, open to the public! As always, do not miss the "big one", either! The Sunday Linebattle happens at 20:00 CET. Come join us at some or even all of these! Until then, that has been the Minden News™, your prime source of regimental news and the only source you should trust. Have a great week!

News / Minden News #7: Hardcore Mode - Media Spotlight
« on: January 30, 2018, 09:42:44 pm »

Hardcore Media Moguls

Are you tough enough? Holdfast continues development through Early Access and following the last major patch, a Hardcore Mode is currently in the making. This mode will focus on optimal balance for organised linebattles, through a multitude of changes. There is no exhaustive changelog as of yet, but the 51st is taking part in testing this mode prior to its official launch, so make sure to stick around to get an early glimpse.

Missed a linebattle? Wondering how we did? Or perhaps you would simply like to re-live an epic, hard-fought victory of ours - This is possible by checking out the extensive video library of our very own Ferkison, who regularly streams our events as well as a selection of other games. Check out all the recordings here and think about following him if you enjoy the content.
Major Spunned has returned to us and with him our official YouTube channel! This is a prime source for nostalgia, with videos from our time in the Mount and Blade: Warband mod Napoleonic Wars. You can expect some well-edited Holdfast content on here soon, such as the video of the Saturday Public Linebattle from earlier this month. You can find all our videos here.
Since we are on the topic of being media savvy, we also freshened up our thread on the official Holdfast forums. Take a second to bask in all of its bbcode glory and join the discussion there.

In other regimental news, LCpl Walki is the newest recipient of the Cross of Valour 3rd Class! Staying level-headed under the pressure of having more than 160 pairs of eyes fixed upon him, he valiantly defeated multiple opponents at the end of a round, ensuring victory against all odds. We congratulate him and hope to see continued excellent performance.

Join our NA Training this Friday at 7:30 PM EST/EDT! As mentioned last week, we may attend a linebattle afterwards. Other than this, we hope to see you at the Saturday Public Linebattle at 20:00 CET and of course at the Sunday Linebattle at 20:00 CET. We hope you have a great week and bid you adieu until the next issue of the Minden News™.

News / Minden News #6: Holdfast Update - Regiment News
« on: January 23, 2018, 09:27:13 pm »

The Old and the New

Change is a-comin', comrades! In case you find yourself living under a rock on the far side of the moon, Holdfast just had a major update. Changes include the tweaking of melee combat, which is the developers' biggest priority, as well as some new content. Joining the British are the 92nd Highlanders, complete with fashionable kilts and obnoxiously loud bagpipes! The iconic yellow lapels of the Polish Legion of the Vistula were also spotted among the French infantry. On top of this, both factions received a new class: The Grenadier, who excels in melee combat but does not actually carry grenades... yet. A few new maps for both linebattles and standard play have also been added. From what we can tell, melee combat was slowed down slightly and the blocking delay was reduced to a minimum, making blocking on reaction somewhat viable now. Of course, further fine-tuning is needed. We usually test beta versions of new patches before release, so be sure to join in if you are interested in helping out the game! For everything about the new patch, check out the dev-log.

Did you know the 51st is a very hip regiment that is "down with the kids"? Well, we are - So naturally as a hip regiment, we also have a Discord server, which now accompanies all our other channels. Join us here!

We are reminding you that we now have weekly NA Trainings as well, on Fridays at 7:30 PM EST/EDT. Depending on attendance and interest, we may also take part in the NA Friday Linebattle at 8 PM EST/EDT.

As usual, there will be the good old Saturday Public Linebattle to look forward to at 20:00 CET, as well as the Sunday Linebattle, at 20:00 CET. We will see you on the battlefield and of course for next week's edition of the Minden News™.

News / Minden News #5: New Lance Corporals - Community Spotlight
« on: January 16, 2018, 09:50:11 pm »

Oooh, Shiny!

Has it been a week already? Oh, how time flies when you are having fun!

As you may have noticed, the number of bearskin caps on the flanks of our line has increased. This is because we have accepted a new batch of Lance Corporals after carefully reviewing all of your applications. The new LCpls are Griff, Jamster, Miwiw, OriginalHobo, Pootis, stalkprey, Tinez and Walki. We look forward to seeing your skills in command and administration!

A special mention goes out to LCpl Miwiw, who through his exceptional performance in the Sunday Linebattle earned a Cross of Valour in Bronze! Read all about his exploits, as well as about the previous recipients in this thread.

There is no official Thursday Event planned! As mentioned, we no longer have regular Thursday Events. Do not be disappointed, however, as this can also be a good time to socialize with the rest of the 51st! Our members play many different games together, such as the Grand Strategy title Europa Universalis 4, in which multiple online campaigns have already been concluded. A brand new multiplayer game of EU4 is scheduled to begin this Thursday, at 20:00 CET! When asked about the most exciting thing to look forward to, our very own Walki commented: "Backstabbing - Game of Thrones style". The last campaigns have had an average of eight players in them. If you have the game and would like to join in, be it just for one session or for the whole thing, let Pounder or Walki know! You can read all about it HERE. Note that we may still spontaneously schedule a Holdfast event such as public play, so stay tuned and be there if you are interested.

If you are itching for more Holdfast, you can look forward to the Saturday Public Linebattle at 20:00 CET, followed by the Sunday Linebattle, also at 20:00 CET as usual. We hope to see you there, as we wrap up this week's Minden News and bid you a good night. Until next week!

News / Minden News #4: NCO Trials Closing - Event Info
« on: January 10, 2018, 12:12:08 am »

Off to a Good Start

Greetings, friends, and welcome to the second news update of 2018! As the last stragglers who thankfully survived the holidays are returning, we are happy to be fully back on track.

NCO Applications are closing tomorrow! As mentioned, we will stop accepting applications for the Trial NCO Program tomorrow evening, January 10th. Immediately following this, we will contact all applicants and let them know if they have been accepted, or why they have not. This means that now is your last chance to apply! You can do so here. We would like to thank all applicants so far for their interest in helping out the regiment even more than they already are. Note that these will not be the last NCO tryouts, so we encourage those of you who did not feel like they were ready to apply yet to keep at it, familiarize yourself with the way we do things and perhaps consider applying in the future.

What have we got planned for this week? On Thursday, the 11th of January, we will be attending a Coastal Siege Event at 20:00 CET. This should be a fun diversion from the usual linebattle format, with plenty of opportunities to delve into the naval aspect of the game. Until further notice, this will be the last Thursday Event. Following this will be the NA Event on Friday at 7:00 PM EDT/EST. If our regular Tuesday Trainings are at an inconvenient time for you, consider joining the Friday Training!

As per usual, we are happy to be taking part in the Saturday Public Linebattle at 20:00 CET. While Saturday Events are not quite as competitive as the Sunday ones, we still heavily encourage all of you to attend. This is where we as a regiment can really showcase what we do and engage with the Holdfast community as a whole. Of course, following this will be the Sunday Linebattle at 20:00 CET.

And that is it from the news desk! We look forward to the new Lance Corporals, as well as to seeing all of you on the battlefield.

News / Minden News #3: We're Back, Baby - Heading into 2018 - NA Event
« on: January 03, 2018, 12:08:40 am »

Happy New Year!

The Holidays are over and we sincerely hope you all had a good time. As things go back to normal around the globe, so does the 51st Regiment. Today's training marked the beginning of us going back to our regular schedule, which means Tuesday Trainings at 20:00 CET, irregular Thursday Events at around the same time (19:00-21:00 CET), Saturday Public Linebattle at 20:00 CET and of course the Sunday Linebattle at 20:00 CET

We are still looking for capable trial NCOs! Applications will be open for one more week, until Wednesday the 10th. If you would like to be considered for a future position as non-commissioned officer, submit your application today! Apply Here! The only requirement is a rank of Private or above. Applying does not guarantee you a spot, but we still heavily encourage doing so and, should your application get declined, we will still tell you why.

Colonials rejoice! As promised, we will be starting a Friday Event for our North American members and those from similar timezones. Whether this will be a full-on training or an improvised event has yet to be decided, so keep your eyes open for what is to come this Friday and, hopefully, many more Fridays afterwards! The Friday Event is scheduled for 7:00 PM EDT/EST.

That about wraps up this week's Minden News. We are happy to have all of you back after our break and are ready to kickstart 2018 with some exciting events. Stay tuned and, again, Happy New Year folks!

News / Minden News #2: Christmas Break - Talent Scouting
« on: December 19, 2017, 05:02:37 pm »

The Festive Season is upon us, friends! Time to spend time with your loved ones and do some last minute Christmas shopping. As mentioned in last week's Minden News, the 51st Regiment is going on Christmas Break starting today until January 1st. During this period, there will be no mandatory events or trainings, meaning attendance for this period is completely optional. Feel free take some time off, find your nearest Christmas market and enjoy some mulled wine! There is no Tuesday Training today! The next official training is on Tuesday, January 2nd. Starting then, we will return to our regular schedule.

There will still be the Saturday Public Linebattles and the Sunday Linebattles, which we will attend with however many soldiers we can muster. The schedule for these is as follows:

Dec. 23rd - Saturday Public Linebattle at 20:00 CET
Dec. 24th - Sunday Linebattle at 20:00 CET
Dec. 30th - Saturday Public Linebattle at 20:00 CET
Dec. 31st - Sunday Linebattle at 20:00 CET

We are looking for new talent! Starting today, we are once again accepting applications for the NCO Program. We are always happy to give those with ambitions and talent to lead a chance to prove themselves. If you think you have what it takes and would like a shot at proving yourself, submit your application today! You will be evaluated not only based on your time spent with us, but also on your personal skills - There are many ways to contribute to the regiment, so don't be shy. The only hard requirement is that applicants must hold the rank of Private or above. Lastly, keep in mind that submitting an application does not guarantee you a spot as a trial NCO, we will consider each submission case-by-case.
Applications will be open throughout the Holidays until further notice.

>> Click here to apply! <<

Promotions last week included not only some of our esteemed enlisted members, but also four Non-Commissioned Officers.
On December 17th, former Corporals Backpacker, Hunter, Melchett and Unc0nn3ct3d were promoted to the rank of Sergeant. We congratulate and thank them for their continuous help with running the regiment.

In other news, NA Trainings will be formally introduced after New Year's. They are scheduled to take place on Fridays at 7:00 PM EDT/EST (subject to change) and will offer an alternative for our non-EU members to attend a weekly training at a time more comfortable for them. European members will still be more than welcome to attend these, just like we continue to welcome everyone for our regular Tuesday Trainings.

That is it for this week's Minden News! We would like to use this opportunity to remind you that, should you have any questions or concerns at all, you are always free to contact the COs or NCOs via Steam or Teamspeak. We are here to help.
With that said, we hope you have a great week and of course a fantastic Christmas.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, but not this time. The Siege Event scheduled for this Thursday has been cancelled. Instead, we will host a non-mandatory public play session - A good oppportunity to cozy up with other members of the regiment! If you would like to partake, join us this Thursday on Teamspeak at around 20:00 CET (click to convert)

As mentioned in this week's Tuesday Training debrief, the 51st Regiment will go on Christmas Break very soon. More details will follow, so do not worry about excusing yourself for missing events during the holidays - There will not be any [official ones].

While we rapidly approach the jolly season, Holdfast: Nations at War is receiving further development updates. As some of you might know, Prussia is the next faction to be introduced and what has been teased so far is looking good! Check out the upcoming changes, new maps and fancy blue uniforms in the latest Dev Blog.

While you're at it, show your support for the game! Holdfast made it into IndieDB's Top 100 and you can now vote for it to become one of the Top Indie Games of 2017. Spare a minute of your time and cast your votes here! You can also leave a review to help the game out. If you have not already done so, leave a short review on Steam as well!

We would like to remind you that, as per usual, there will be the Saturday Public Linebattle held between 19:00 and 21:00 CET, as well as the Sunday Linebattle at 20:00 CET.

More Grand Campaign stuff is coming your way too this week! Following the Saturday Public Linebattle, we will temporarily carry French banners once more and partake in a linebattle at 22:00 CET

This wraps up the first ever official installment of the Minden News, coming to you weekly - Only on 51stregiment.com!
