News / Minden News #50: Cavalry Applications and 'Order 51'!
« on: April 18, 2021, 04:58:17 pm »

Issue #50: "Strike upwards, if you strike at the stars."

Increasing tension between 51st Factions
In the past few weeks there has been an unprecedented increase in violence and rhetoric between the Cool Union of Classy Kingsmen (self styled as the CUCKs), and the self proclaimed Fusilier Council. More recently the Grenadier Company has become embroiled in the conflict. In the past few days, an incident occurred where Grenadier Company members marched on the Classy Union's fort, aptly named "CUCK Hold", while the CUCKs were holding an internal ceremony. What unfolded next resulted in the death and injury of many 51st members on both sides of the divide.

However, an exclusive eyewitness who has asked to remain anonymous, has told the Minden News:
"There was a tense moment, followed by a shot. The CUCKs shot first lmao ... After that, the Grenadiers slaughtered everyone in the hold including yours truly."

I confronted Acting Lord Chancellor of the CUCKs Maverick about this allegation and responded with:
"In my eyes William at the time acted without orders. They walked into the fort and made their aggressions. I believe, with or without action from the CUCKS, it would have resulted in a massacre. Their "Order 51" shows its was planned from the start."

A full video recording of how the events unfolded can be seen at the link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfqcnhYBoyo

As a strictly unbiased regimental publication, we cannot comment on the developing situation with the parties involved. We condemn the recent violent unrest within the regiment.

Holdfast Artillery League Champions!
Huge congratulations are in order for our Artillery Company!

Recently our Artillery Company successfully defended their title as champions in the latest iteration of the Holdfast Artillery League. The competition was hard fought and culminated with our lads facing off in the final against the 63e. However, our Artillerymen and Sappers evidently brought their A-game because the outcome was a resounding clean sweep, with a final score of 3-0. This performance was reflected in the rest of the tournament too. The artillery lads performed exceptionally well from start to finish, winning most of their matches with no rounds lost!

You can see the full results by having a look at the Challonge scoresheet here.

Cavalry Applications - OPEN!
Do you like cool uniforms, horses, and sabres? Maybe even all of the above? Do you also hold the rank of Regular or higher?
Well, put on your spurs and count yourself lucky because as announced on Saturday, applications for Cavalry Company are open once again! As our newest company, Cavalry has been working hard to become a more cohesive unit, this is no easy task for a new group but they've done an amazing job so far and have proved their worth on many occasions during tournaments and events.

If you would like to be part of Cavalry Company you can check out the #cavalry-applications channel on Discord!

XMG EU 3v3 Tournament Results
The congratulations train doesn't stop here, three 51st members formed a team for the recent XMG EU 3v3 Tournament.
The team in question, named Choke Company, was made up of members Acez, RickDickBang, and Dr. Gendalf. They sailed smoothly to victory and have been crowned overall winners. As readers will know, competitive melee can be tough but the three members involved are big names in the melee community. Huge well done on their win!

The full bracket can be seen on Challonge here.

Recent NCO Promotions
Since the last edition of Minden News, readers may have noticed some new NCOs hanging around in events and on TeamSpeak.
Notably, our newest batch of Lance Corporals have passed the Trial NCO stage and have been accepted into the ranks as fully fledged NCOs. Behind the scenes, these NCOs work hard to keep the regiment ticking over and are tasked with completing many of the administration tasks that are required for things to run smoothly. Keep up the good work!

Below is a list of all the recent NCO promotions - congratulations to you all, promotions well deserved!

Grenadier Uniform / Competitive Melee
A little bird told me that a new 51st Grenadier uniform is in the pipeline. VectorScope and the team have put out some fantastic uniforms in the past for the 51st so I'm sure readers are as excited as me for the upcoming release. So, keep your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground for any updates!

Word on the street is that after previous competitive melee match performances, Grenadier Company's competitive team is undergoing some big changes. As I've previously mentioned, the competitive melee scene can be a difficult ride but we have some talented members within the regiment. We wish the boys all the best and I believe they will succeed! "No shitters!"

Issue #48: "Novum initium"

Springtime 2021!
The time of new beginnings is upon us in the Northern Hemisphere. As such, now is the time start planting your seeds so you can reap the rewards later.
Statistically, February is the month where the majority of people give up on their New Years Resolutions, but I know that Minden News readers do not give up easily and I know that all of you are very studiously and steadfastly adhering to the promises you made for 2021. Isn't that right, readers?

51st vs. GDE Linebattle
I'm not sure if you have heard yet, but there's a linebattle tonight between the 51st and the GDE, a French regiment. It's regiment versus another with all support companies participating (Lights, Cav., Arty.). The GDE have told us they will be bringing about 60-65 men, so we'll need a good showing to match them. I'm sure it'll be a good linebattle and a lot of fun if nothing else! All those who can make it are strongly encouraged to attend, especially those in specialised companies. So be around or be square.

Wednesday, after training at 21:00 CET / 15:00 EDT.
• Ruleset is here!

Past tournament results
Internal 1v1 Melee Tournament
There's nothing like a good melee fest and the most recent melee 1v1 tournament went off with great success! There was some fantastic fights between participants, especially during the last few fights with some extraordinary talent being showcased. We've hosted a few of these tournaments now and we hope those who attended enjoyed participating or even just spectating the event. Even if you didn't do as well as you hoped, it's good experience and we hope you use this as an opportunity to improve your melee skills.

The winners are as follows:
• 1st/Guardsman - Lance Corporal James_Stukov
• 2nd - Lance Corporal Acez
• 3rd - Private Turtles

Once again, well done to all those who participated and especially to our winners. You can see the final standings by clicking the 1v1 Melee Challonge link!
Additionally, as you make know, this tournament will be used as an evaluation for potential Grenadiers so stay tuned to see who makes the cut.

1st WA Cavalry Tournament
We recently had two teams compete in the 1stWA Cav Tournament Major and Minor leagues. Our lads did very well with the Major team making it to the finals and coming in second place and the Minor team made it to the semi-finals and achieved third place. Our cavalry lads have been putting in the work over the last few months and the tournament results prove this with each team performing better than some longer established cavalry groups from other regiments. A huge well done to the lads and hopefully they use this opportunity to further improve their skills!

You can see the final standings of each league through their challonge links below:
1stWA Major League
1stWA Minor League

Donators and Recruitment
A huge thank you as always to our donators and recruiters, it's you who keep this regiment ticking over.

We run a number of servers that are used by the regiment, either for Holdfast or for other games we play with the community. If you wish to contribute towards the upkeep costs, you can do so by donating to the regiment via Patreon, where you receive certain benefits, or by donating to our PayPal via the website.

Recently our Discord has been server boosted to Level 3 which gives us a range of perks and benefits including, but not limited to, 1080p 60fps streaming (which is greatly appreciated by Movie Club), an increased upload limit of 100mb and a unique Discord URL, which will help with recruiting!

Speaking of recruiting, if you want to support the regiment in another way, you can do so by recruiting regularly on public servers. The more new recruits that we get allows us to field more men during linebattles, which in turn allows us to run more lines and utilise specialised companies.
More recruits = bigger and better linebattles!

Current Schedule:
Monday - Naval Battle - 20:00 CET / 2:00 PM EDT
Tuesday - Siege - 20:00 CET / 2:00 PM EDT

News / Minden News #46: Christmas 2020, Weekend Tournaments and More!
« on: December 17, 2020, 07:14:14 pm »

Issue #46: "Tempus fugit."

Christmas and New Years 2020
It's the most wonderful time of year! It's December once again and the year is coming to a close. I'm not sure about the reader, but even with the beginning of the roaring 20s, the threat of World War III, Covid-19, toilet paper shortages and lockdowns looming over our heads, this year has seemed to have whizzed by very quickly. In celebration, here's a Christmassy edition of Minden News to bring 2020 to a close!

IMPORTANT: A quick update on temporary schedule changes:
• We will be NOT be attending the Saturday Linebattle on Saturday the 19th, instead we will be attending the BCoF playtest (more info here if you wish to sign up)
• There will be no events on December 24th, December 25th, or December 31st.
• Additionally, some events hosted by other regiments may be cancelled at short notice.

Tournaments this weekend: Holdfast Boxing 2020 and Rocket League 1v1!

Holdfast Boxing Tournament:
Feel stressed after the year we've had? Have you ever felt like grabbing the man next to you in line and smashing his face in? Or perhaps you feel like the NCOs or COs are too hard on you and you want revenge? Well look no further because we have got the thing for you! Our upcoming Holdfast Boxing Tournament will be happening this weekend on Friday the 18th at 19:00 GMT/20:00 PM CET! So get your gloves and shorts on because the winner will be crowned the Heavyweight Champion of the 51st, an impressive title indeed!

For more details and a full ruleset or to sign up, have a look at the Holdfast Boxing Challonge link!

UPDATE: After a spectacular event with a lot of fighters doing very well, the Heavyweight Champion of the 51st is Lance Corporal Acez! Huge congratulations to everyone involved but especially to Acez!

1v1 Rocket League:
Maybe you're a pacifist or maybe Holdfast Boxing just isn't you thing, well fret not because I have another treat in my sack! Following the previous two Rocket League Tournaments, our third 1v1 Rocket League Tournament is happening this Saturday! The previous tournaments have been hugely successful and this time around you don't have to be from the 51st to participate, so invite your friends! Rumours are that the prize is a secret, so shout for your favourite contender and maybe they'll share it with you! It takes place on Saturday the 19th at 21:00 GMT/22:00 PM CET so time to take off your tyre blankets and start your engines !

Unfortunately sign ups are now closed, but have a look at the Rocket League Challonge link for more information!

New Training Format - Opinions?
On Wednesday we introduced a new training format which encompassed interoperability between each of the regimental companies (Centre, Grenadier, Artillery, Cavalry and Lights) by seeing them work alongside eachother in mock linebattles. We are still fleshing out the specifics and getting things perfect but we would to love hear your opinion on how it went if you haven't already told us. Simply drop a comment below!

Cavalry Company Rollout
As readers may have noticed over the last few weeks, Cavalry Company has been fully rolled out and 51st horses are now a common sight during our current events.
This is in part due to the huge recruitment drive in the past month or so by our members which has allowed us to field a lot more men during events. Well done to everyone who helped make this happen and be sure to keep it up. We are glad to have the Cavalry boys on our side and we wish them the best of luck.

As a reminder, you are free to apply to any of the support companies, including Cavalry, once you reach the rank of Regular (Rgl) in the regiment.

Recruitment & Welcome!
Once again, much thanks to our recruiters for their hard work keeping the new blood flowing through the regiment. If you find the time over the next few weeks, be like our top recruiters and be sure to do some recruitment on the public servers!

As always, I would like to extend a warm welcome to any recent additions to our clan and I hope you are all settling into regimental life well. Although our event schedule may be winding down a little given the time of year, there will probably be plenty of us hanging out on TeamSpeak playing games and chatting - feel free to join and have fun!

Issue #43: "Usus est magister optimus."

RESULTS - 1v1 Melee Tournament
It's that time again gentlemen. Another edition of Minden News.

As readers may know, last weekend we had the second regimental 1v1 Melee Tournament. I'm sure everyone will agree with me when I say there was some nail-bitingly close matches. I'm also sure everyone who was watching will have been amazed by the high level of melee skill in the tournament this time around. Noteworthy mentions go to the round fought between Acez v. Copperfield; and the final round Tachang v. Copperfield. There was some really extraordinary melee being played and I'm sure nobody will forget this tournament for awhile!
You can see the final table below:

Prizes have been given out and are as such:
• 1st place - Tachang awarded the rank of Guardsman!
• Most Improved Enlisted - Acez awarded the £10 Steam voucher

Congratulations to Tachang (who now holds the disgustingly beautiful rank of Sergeant Guardsman (Sgt.Gdm)) and Acez on their well deserved achievements!
Kudos to everyone else for participating, it's all good experience and some of you have made leaps and bounds since the last tournament. Keep practising and one day you might hold the coveted rank of Guardsman. We hope to see you attend the next tournament.

Holdfast Update: Expanded Battlefields & High Command DLC
The new Holdfast update is live! Contained in the new update are 8 new maps,, melee changes, new and improved cavalry controls and new gestures. Along with the free updates, there is a new paid DLC with 4 new officer skins and an infantry officer sword! Be sure to check out both the trailer for the update and the Steam store page for the paid DLC!

Napoleonic Artillery League & Artillery Showcase Video
The Napoleonic Artillery League is still ongoing and our Artillery Company boys have been making good progress with their matches. As they were top of the table in their group, they are now through to the final stages with one match to be played before they reach the semi-finals. Currently still in the running for the winners crown are the KRA, 21st, the 26th and the 8thLR. You can see the current fixtures on Challonge.

Our Artillery boys have done very well so far, but it's not over yet! Be sure to cheer them on during their upcoming matches!

Keeping with the Artillery theme, I want to share with you a video made by our very own VectorScope for the 51st Regiment of Foot YouTube channel.
It's excellently made and a fine display of the skill our artillery boys possess! So here it is, enjoy!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzaYwWOlaWc

Trial NCOs & Recruitment
You may have noticed we have had an intake of new Trial NCOs. Although they are not strictly NCOs yet, they are distinguished with an asterisk (*) in TeamSpeak to set them apart from the ordinary rabble enlisted. We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming challenges.

To end the week, as always we'd like to thank everyone that has been spending time on public servers and recruiting. As you all know, more recruits means bigger and better events for us so we appreciate all the hard work the recruiters do each month. Huge thanks to all our donators and patrons on Patreon too, without you we couldn't function.

It was close, but our top recruiter for the month of August was Omerhaybo! Let me extend a huge thank you to omerhaybo, he has been putting in the work recruiting over the last few months. Be like Omer and get recruiting! We'll love you for it.

For all the new members, welcome to the regiment! Feel free to spend time in TeamSpeak and get to know everyone!

Battle Cry of Freedom Alpha Test - Spaces still available! - FRIDAY 7TH AUGUST
Dear friends, another edition of the Minden News is upon us.

There is an upcoming alpha test for Battle Cry of Freedom, a linebattle-type game set during the American Civil War made by the same team who developed Napoleonic Wars for Mount & Blade: Warband! The regiment has been invited to partake and there are still spaces available to anyone who wishes to come along, help out the developers and try a game for free. For anyone interested, there is a small application process (which can be done in less than 30 seconds over Discord) and some requirements to be met. Please only apply if you are able to attend the playtest on Friday, as spaces are limited. Full details can be found in the tester-signup room on Discord.

To participate in the test, you must:
• Be able to attend the playtest on Friday 07th August at 20:00 CEST / 19:00 BST.
• Be at least 16 years old.
• Apply with the application template in the tester-signup room on the 51st Discord.
• Sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) once accepted as a tester.

The test will be happening on Friday 7th August, so be sure to sign up before the day. There will be a few of us playing so you won't be alone!

Applications for Light Company are now OPEN!
Clean your rifles and restock your musketballs. The wait is over and Light Company has finally launched and has opened it's gates to applicants!

Light Company will be used to delay, harass, or otherwise soften up enemy formations. To achieve these aims during events, Light Company members may be deployed as Rifles, Light Infantry or as a small, highly manoeuvrable line. As Lights will mostly be a vanguard unit, members will be required to have good skills in shooting and melee. In order for applicants to show they have these skills, there will be an evaluation divided into two parts for all applicants. The first part is a personal evaluation in melee and shooting. The second part will be as a trial member during line battles. Further details and a full list of requirements can be found in this forum thread.

Requirements are that you must:
• Hold the rank of Regular or above.
• Be competent at melee and shooting.
• Have excellent situational and spatial awareness.
• Have and use a microphone over TeamSpeak.
• Applicants can apply via this forum thread.

Surgeon Request
Would you like to perform battlefield surgery whilst dodging musket fire and cannonballs? Well you're in luck!
There is now a system which allows you to request the role of surgeon for our events. As there will be many people applying for this role, we have a waiting list which rotates every event so different people get to play as surgeon every event. This waiting list will allow as many different people to play as surgeon as possible. There are guidelines you must follow when you are chosen for surgeon for an event, these guidelines along with all further information can be found in the surgeon-signup room on Discord.

Requirements are that you must:
• Hold the rank of Private or above.
• Be ready and in TeamSpeak 5 minutes before the event start time.
• Adhere to the guidelines set out in the surgeon-request channel.
• Request to be surgeon via the surgeon-request channel on Discord.

New Friday NA Linebattle & Napoleonic Artillery League
We have a new NA event which we will be attending every Friday at 02:00 CEST / 8:00 PM EDT. It's a line only event, meaning there will be no cavalry, lights or artillery. Our NA events are usually a little bit more relaxed compared to our EU events but we still want a good display, so be sure to show up if you can! This change to the event schedule can be seen in the 'Current Schedule' section at the end of this article.

As many of you already know, our Artillery Company has been participating in Season 1 of the Napoleonic Artillery League (NAL), where they have been performing very well in the group stage. The current rankings show the 51st in second place in Group A, one point behind the group leaders. In any case, there will be a lot more upcoming matches where our Artillery boys will be showing off their skills. We wish them the best of luck!

To bring a close to the article, a friendly welcome to all those who have joined our ranks over the last few weeks. We play lots of different kinds of games on TeamSpeak outside of events too, so get stuck in!

Current Schedule:
Monday — Naval Battle — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT
Tuesday — Siege — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT
Wednesday — Training — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT
Wednesday — Public Linebattle — 21:00 CEST / 3:00 PM EDT
Thursday — Linebattle — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT
Friday — Game Night — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT
Friday — Artillery Event — 21:00 CEST / 3:00 PM EDT
Friday — NA Linebattle — 02:00 CEST / 8:00 PM EDT
Saturday — Linebattle — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT
Saturday — Melee Training — 21:30 CEST / 3:30 PM EDT
Saturday — NA Linebattle — 02:00 CEST / 8:00 PM EDT
Sunday — Bootcamp & Linebattle — 19:00 CEST / 1:00 PM EDT

That concludes the August edition of the Minden News.

The most recent Holdfast update has introduced a regiment registry to the game, this means you can sign up and be listed as a member of of a regiment via the main menu. As such, if you have not already done so, sign up to the 51st Regiment of Foot as soon as possible!

Another feature included in this update is regiment levelling and regiment leaderboards. This means the more our members play on public servers, the more XP we accrue over time and the higher we get on the leaderboards! So get playing on public servers and boost our XP and popularity!

Updated Event Schedule
For those of you who don't already know, our current schedule of events has changed slightly.

Game Night has switched from Saturday to Friday and we now have two linebattle events every Saturday. Friday Game Night and the first Saturday linebattle begin at the standard time of 20:00 CEST / 2:00 EDT. Whereas, the second Saturday linebattle is a NA event and begins at 02:00 CEST / 8:00 PM EDT. Everyone is welcome and attendance is encouraged!

These changes to the event schedule are reflected in the 'Current Schedule' section at the end of this article.

Rollout of New Uniforms!
Just a small update on the status of our custom uniforms. As many of you already know, our new uniforms have been steadily rolling out and undergoing minute changes over the last week or so. The current line infantry and NCO skins are now fully completed. In addition, the Officer class is now mostly complete but has been undergoing small changes. However, it doesn't end there, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more custom content appearing in the near future.

Supporting the Regiment & New Recruits
We appreciate all the extra work and help our members put in for the clan, whether that consists of recruiting members, donating to the clan or creating guides for mods for everyone to use.

Congratulations are in order for Corporal VectorScope, who recently has been putting in phenomenal work for the regiment and was recently promoted for his efforts. More members who received noteworthy promotions recently are Chosen Man Maximo 420, who is now our first and currently only Chosen Man in the regiment, Lieutenant Jamster, who has been a core member for a few years now, and Kingsman Average, who only joined earlier this year but has been regularly attending events. All of these people have been putting plenty of time and effort into the regiment since they joined. Congratulations to all mentioned, well deserved!
Remember, hard work and commitment is recognised and rewarded!

Lastly, I would like to extend cordial greetings to all of our new recruits and privates that have joined us recently!
Be sure to get to know everyone by attending events, playing other games with us, or just spending some time chatting on TeamSpeak or Discord.

News / Minden News #40: D-Day 76, 1v1 Tournaments & More!
« on: June 06, 2020, 02:18:06 pm »

Issue #40: "V"

D-Day 76 - "The sooner you people get off the beach, the sooner they'll stop this blasted shelling."
June 1944. Operation Neptune and associated airborne operations such as Operation Tonga and Operation Mallard sought to begin what would be Operation Overlord, or the invasion of Normandy. With the first British airborne troops landing just before midnight on the 5th, the majority of British and American airborne troops landed by parachute and glider in the very early morning on the 6th to capture bridges, towns and other strategic points ahead of the sea landings. The main seaborne fleet, made up of 80% Royal Navy vessels, 16% American and 4% other allies, had amassed at an area aptly named "Piccadilly Circus" south of the Isle of Wight early in the morning and steamed onwards on towards the French coastline.

At 05:00, HMS Warspite had the honour of firing the first rounds, the voice of her six 15-inch guns thundered with the aim of softening up the German defences for the landing force. After hours of aerial bombing and heavy naval bombardment, the Americans along with British support landed first at Utah Beach at 06:25. Americans with British, Canadian and Free French troops landed at Omaha Beach minutes later at 06:30. Followed less than an hour later at 07:25 with British and Free French forces landing at Sword Beach where they met the only Panzer Division resistance of the Normandy landings. British forces landed less than ten minutes later at 07:35 at Gold and finally the Canadians and British landed at Juno Beach at 07:55.

It was the largest amphibious assault ever seen with and paved the way for the invasion into Fortress Europe.
The Channel may have stopped Hitler's plans for Britain in 1940, but it didn't stop Britain and her Allies in 1944.

RESULTS - 1v1 Melee Tournament!
On a lighter note, the melee 1v1 internal melee tournament went ahead and it was a huge success. A huge well done to everyone who participated, it was a commendable effort by all. Hopefully all who took part enjoyed it. Honourable mention goes to Grenadier Company. Their reputation precedes itself, Gren. Coy. members were on top form and they performed very well.

Particular congratulations and felicitations go to the three big winners of the tournament:

• 1st place/Overall winner - Guardsman James_Stukov - Awarded Guardsman rank
• Most Improved Enlisted - Grenadier Acez - £10 Steam voucher
• Overall good performance - Grenadier dengland777 - Invited to Grenadier Company

Regardless of how well you did in the final result, we hope you enjoyed the tournament and hopefully you took away something to improve on for next time a tournament comes along.

Upcoming Rocket League 1v1 Tournament!
Lance Corporal Seaside, Lance Corporal VectorScope and Regular Ecko have been devising and organising a 1v1 tournament in Rocket League. The tournament will take place a week from now on Saturday 13th June at 19:00 BST/20:00 CEST. It will be in the style of a double elimination 1v1, meaning if you lose your first match, you'll get another attempt to prove your worth before being knocked out fully. There's a prize for the 1st place winner of a Heatwave skin for Rocket League worth ~€20. More prizes will be added for 2nd and 3rd place when more participants sign up.

To summarise:
• Tournament takes place on Saturday 13th June at 19:00 BST/20:00 CEST
• 1v1 double elimination style tournament.
• Prize for 1st place, with more prizes being added as more join the tournament.
• Open to anyone, no criteria.
• Sign up via the challonge link here.

Any further questions about the tournament can be directed towards either Seaside or VectorScope.

Recruitment & new TeamSpeak badges!
A big thank you to all the recent recruiting efforts by all. We appreciate any and all new recruits that enter our ranks. To show our appreciation for efforts made by our top recruiters, we will be introducing TeamSpeak badges for the top three recruiters for each month.

The top three recruiters (by number of recruited members) for the month of May are as follows:

Lance Corporal HubblyBubbly: 9 recruits
Lance Corporal VectorScope: 8 recruits
Regular George: 4 recruits

Do like our top recruiters and get recruiting! More recruits means bigger and better events!

Modding Support and 51st Uniforms
Modding support for Holdfast has been added in a recent update. This will make for more varied gameplay with hopefully new linebattle, siege and naval maps being added for use in events down the line, as seen with the Helm's Deep map on our Siege event on Tuesday. Modding support allows us to create custom mods for the regiment such as uniforms and colours. Progress on our 51st Regiment of Foot uniforms is coming along nicely as you can see in the teaser image provided by VectorScope on the left of this article. A mod for our own 51st Regimental Colours is also in the works and you may be seeing it soon.

If anyone is inclined to work on mods, feel free! More mods means more variation and makes for interesting gameplay!

Current Schedule:
Monday — Naval Battle — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT
Tuesday — Siege — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT
Wednesday — Training — 20:00 CEST / 2:00 PM EDT

News / Minden News #39: Internal 1v1 Melee Tournament
« on: May 09, 2020, 05:08:59 pm »

Issue #39: "Quality is not an act, it is a habit."

75th Anniversary of VE Day! - "They gave their lives that others might have freedom"
As readers of the Minden News may know, the 8th of May is VE Day and this years was the 75th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day (or Victory in Europe Day) commemorates the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945, marking the end of the Second World War in the European Theatre. This was a momentous and joyous occasion for the European peoples, including those from neutral nations, who had endured total war since 1939. However it was marred with sadness for some, with numerous lives lost over the course of the previous six years.

Many of us being Europeans, we tend to overlook the fact that there was further fighting well after VE Day against Japan in the Pacific, whom at this point remained unsubdued, until late 1945.
Whilst the Americans and Australians were tackling the Philippines, the United Kingdom and Empire forces, along with Dutch and American troops, tightened their grip on Borneo.

We tend to overlook the Burma Campaign to an even greater extent, where the United Kingdom and her Empire, along with American, Republican Chinese and Burmese-allied troops continued their struggle against Japanese and Free Indian forces until late 1945. The British Fourteenth Army's nickname, The Forgotten Army, is a prime example of how the contemporary news sources overlooked the Burma Campaign in favour of the developing situation in the Pacific.

INTERNAL 51st 1V1 MELEE TOURNAMENT
Want to compete in a regimental melee event for fun? Fancy yourself a melee player and want to prove your worth? Or maybe you just want to win prizes and bragging rights?

The 51st will be holding a melee tournament within the regiment, which will be taking place the end of this month on Friday 29th May at 20:30 BST/21:30 CEST!
The tournament will be in the style of a 'world cup', this means there will be a Group Stage with groups of 4 players, the top 2 players of each group will go through to elimination style rounds until a winner is crowned. This tournament is open to everyone in the regiment, regardless of rank or company. In addition, there will be prizes given to participants. The Overall Winner will receive the coveted Guardsman rank, the most improved enlisted will receive a £10 Steam voucher and invitations to Grenadier Company may be given to those who show exemplary melee skills throughout the tournament.

To summarise:
• Tournament takes place on Friday 29th May at 20:30 BST/21:30 CEST
• Group Stage will consist of 4-man groups.
• Top 2 players in each group will progress to elimination stages.
• Anyone in the regiment can participate.
• Sign up via the challonge link here.

Prizes are as such:
• 1st place/Overall winner - Guardsman Rank
• Most Improved Enlisted - £10 Steam Voucher

News / Minden News #37: Arrival of Grenadier & Artillery Companies
« on: March 15, 2020, 09:17:00 pm »

Issue #37: "The sword is the axis of the world and its power is absolute."

GRENADIER COMPANY HAS ARRIVED - "Company will fix bayonets!"
The 51st Regiment of Foot has a reputation for melee; We see it as an integral skill to train and we pride ourselves on being one of the best melee regiments in the Holdfast community.
Our attitude and commitment to training melee means many of our players have a good grasp of the melee system in Holdfast and some have even won tournaments in the past.

As such, we are finally rolling out changes to Grenadier Company.

Grenadier Company will be the regiment's elite melee company, of which the best melee players in the regiment will form the backbone. However, anyone who is Regular or above may apply. To decide which players make the cut, there will be a short application process to join Grenadier Company. As part of the application process, there will be a melee assessment to test your melee ability. This will be arranged for a time when both applicant and assessor are available. In addition, there will be intra-clan tournaments every 2-3 months to decide the best melee player within Grenadier Company and the winner(s) will be granted the prestigious rank of Guardsman. Keep in mind that these ranks distinguish members by their skill level, not by their seniority.

You can make an application to join Grenadier Company via this forum thread.

Furthermore, all current Grenadiers and Guardsmen will be given the new rank of Kingsman, which will serve as the senior enlisted rank within Centre Company. The rank of Kingsman will be held by experienced veterans who have consistently shown exemplary performance in linebattles and other events. The rank of Grenadier will be granted to those accepted into Grenadier Company, as was previously the case.

Finally, we are introducing a new rank called Chosen Man. Those members who are not a part of Grenadier Company, but who have shown great dedication and loyalty to the regiment will be granted this exclusive rank. This rank it is meant for those who have consistently attended events and, in addition, have proven themselves to be invaluable members of the regiment. This is now the highest rank an enlisted member can achieve in Centre Company and Artillery Company, and is equivalent to the rank of Guardsman.

As such, the highest enlisted ranks in the regiment are now Chosen Man and Guardsman. The second highest rank is Kingsman, followed by Grenadier.

To summarise:
• Minimum rank of Regular to apply for Grenadier Company.
• Melee assessment on application.
• Intra-clan dual tournaments every 2-3 months to decide the Guardsmen.
• Those accepted into Grenadier Company will still be given the Grenadier rank.
• Apply via the forum thread.
• All current Grenadiers and Guardsmen are granted the new rank of Kingsman, which is now the second-highest enlisted rank after Chosen Man and Guardsman.
• A new rank has been introduced called Chosen Man. It is equivalent to the Guardsman rank and is the highest rank a member can achieve in Centre Company and Artillery Company.

For those who feel they are not good enough for Grenadier Company, know that it isn't completely out of reach.
See membership of Grenadier Company as a challenge to conquer and strive to get better - practise makes perfect!

If you want to improve your melee skills outside of structured training sessions, we encourage you to play on public melee servers.
Beginners or those who want to master the basics can have a look at our 0.41 Melee Combat Guide.

ARTILLERY COMPANY HAS ARRIVED - "All guns commence firing!"
The 51st Regiment of Foot has a wide pool of talent. There are many skills to hone in Holdfast and we pride ourselves on having talented members that excel at many of these skills. During particular linebattles or siege events, some members are required to operate cannons and/or rockets. To support our line infantry in the field, the 51st Regiment of Foot requires a dedicated team of Artillerymen to provide a firing solution to the artillery question.

To satisfy this requirement, Artillery Company has been established and is seeking members.

Artillery Company is a support company, meaning it will provide support to our lines of infantry during linebattles and other events. Artillery Company will be comprised of members of Centre Company who excel at playing Cannoneer, Rocketeer or Sapper. As such, the the most experienced members of the regiment in those areas will have the opportunity to be accepted into the ranks.
Artillery Company will have a short application process to decide who is deemed capable enough to represent the regiment. The candidate requirements are that you must be Regular or above, be competent in the use of cannons, and be competent in use of the Sapper class. As previously stated, Artillery Company will be recruiting members directly from Centre Company, meaning you cannot be a member of Grenadier Company if you wish to apply.

You can make an application to join Artillery Company via this forum thread.

As Artillery Company is a support company, members will maintain their Centre Company ranks. There will be no changes to ranks for those of you who decided to join the artillery crew.

To summarise:
• Members will remain part of Centre Company.
• Minimum rank of Regular to apply for Artillery Company.
• Artillery competency test on application.
• Must not be a member of Grenadier Company.
• Centre Company ranks will be maintained.
• Apply via the forum thread.

For those who may be interested in Artillery Company, get practising and hone your gunnery skills.
When you feel you're up to the standard, you may apply via the thread and perchance you might earn your place as an artilleryman.

News / Minden News #36: Saint Valentine's Day
« on: February 14, 2020, 09:01:11 pm »

Issue #36: "If music be the food of love, play on"

Saint Valentine's Day
As you may know, February 14th is the feast day of Saint Valentine, a Roman saint and martyr that lived in the 3rd Century AD.

Famously, Saint Valentine has been the patron saint of love and courtship since the High Middle Ages (and less famously, patron saint of epilepsy). He was a Christian clergyman and ministred secretly to the Christians in Rome during the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire. Valentine was ultimately imprisoned, later to be condemned to death. He refused to apostatise and he beaten with wooden clubs and pelted with stones before being beheaded. However on a brighter note, presently for most people Valentine's Day is a more secular holiday that is celebrated by lovers and couples around the world.
So here's to all you romantics out there, hopeless or otherwise.

0.41 Melee Guide
Esteemed melee player and Switzer Grenadier James Stukov has produced a Melee Guide for Holdfast's 0.41 update for your reading pleasure.
The Melee Guide has some great tips for beginners and improvers alike, so get reading if you haven't already.
Thanks to Stukov for producing this guide for us.

Discord and Challenges
For those who haven't already heard, Corporal Tachang has revamped our Discord Server!
Tachang has put in a lot of work into developing the Discord, creating "Challenges" and "Hardcore Challenges" for members to achieve.

Issue #34: God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen

Seasons Greetings & Winding Down
Firstly, allow me to extend warm seasons greetings to all members of the regiment!
As it's almost Christmas, some events will be winding down for the next few weeks. As such, there have been changes to our event schedule. The Monday Naval is on hiatus for three weeks and will be returning the first Monday in January. The Tuesday Training & Siege event will be taking a break on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Lastly, the Thursday Linebattle event will be skipping a week on 26/12/19 as it will fall on Saint Stephen's Day/Boxing Day.
Our current event schedule will be posted at the bottom of this edition of Minden News™.

Cavalry Update - "Now, Scots Greys! Now!"
For those of you who don't know, word on the street is that the cavalry update is at hand and should be dropping very soon™. For those who weren't there, our last Sunday event was played on the beta branch which featured the new cavalry classes. The general consensus was that cavalry classes are a refreshing addition to the game with great potential for linebattles. Let us know if you agree or disagree or what your thoughts on cavalry are!

Upcoming 1v1 Melee Tournament
Lance Corporal Tachang is organising (albeit, accidentally) the largest ever melee tournament in Holdfast to date.
Here are the details for those interested:
